Shops

Brockenhurst village high street (Brookley Road between Grigg Lane and Rhinefield Road - see local map) has some excellent shops including a butcher (good own recipe sausages), baker (good French bread and pain au chocolat) and general store within 5 minutes easy walk and has car parking spaces to the rear.  There is also a post office, newsagents and a variety of other shops.

Lymington has Waitrose, Tesco, Safeway, Boots, and many other good shops as well as a Saturday street market.

Churches

Brockenhurst has St. Saviours & St. Nicholas and St. Anne’s (RC) churches

Restaurants

Rhinefield House - on Rhinefield Drive with oak-panelled restaurant, set menus and reasonable prices.

Il Palio 2 and Il Cervo - sister restaurants opposite Brockenhurst station and on Lyndhurst high street, often full and lively offering pizzas and pastas.

Although, there are too many decent restaurants in and around the New Forest to mention them all, there is usually a good selection advertised in the local press, especially the Lymington Times.  Please let us know of any that you would care to recommend to others.

Public houses

Good public houses in the area include:

Filly Inn - 1 mile south of Brockenhurst on the A337 towards Lymington, a large pub with good real ale (Ringwood Brewery including Old Thumper), decent food and welcomes families.

Hobler Inn - 2 miles south of Brockenhurst on the same road, a small old pub with a roaring fire in winter and a large back garden in summer.  Serves good real ale (various guest ales including usually Wadsworth 6X) and excellent food in a jolly atmosphere.  To avoid disappointment, reserve a table as it is very popular in the evenings.

Fleur de Lys - Pilley village, thatched cottage with garden swing, excellent food.

Red Lion - Boldre village, good food and real ale.

New Forest Inn - Emery Down near Lyndhurst, very popular with excellent food.

There are books in the cottage about New Forest pubs and pub walks.

Of special note are:

Trusty Servant at Minstead;

High Corner Inn and Old Beams towards Ringwood

Queens Head at Burley;

Turfcutters at East End;

The Master Builder at Buckler’s Hard and

Woolpack at Sopley .
